With a cylindrical portion on the end of the taper obvi so you can chuck it up with no run out

What’s that a mini vertical lathe? Just a recommendation to cut down set up time is turn a piece with a mating taper that fits snuggly on the inside of the cup obvi use a softer material so it doesn’t scratch and then just hold the part that fits into the cup with the chuck. Kinda like a expansion mandrel idea ya know?

This is a terrible way to hold it, look how many times it was loose :-).

I have a 100W CO2 Thunder Nova i tried these settings and it burns all the way through the hat. I also tried the setting that I use for scoring Speed 500 Power 7. Still burns through. Any suggestions?

You used Banksy and "Die Hard" images which are violations of copyright. AP Laser you shouldn't be using them in the videos.

Since you have masking tape over the entire work area I would take a pencil or chalk line and draw a centered rectangle where my frame out should be. Then it's an easy matter to adjust the X or Y as needed to end up exactly where you expect the design to be. Also, couldn't you run the engrave the long way and break the image into several parts? There would be less of the image out of focus.

Thin layer of dish soap before? Is that so the glass doesn't crack?

Level the chuck with a round level, then level the bottom of the tumbler, perfect match.

unfortunately this video really doesn't teach in terms of stating what makes a good picture to engrave. Lots of "im just going to to this..." or "we're going to change this to jarvis"...but never an explanation of why or what that change actually did to make it a better sample.
